I had two weddings scheduled this past Labour Day weekend, both of which were planned mostly as an outdoor day. Both of them were also at the Old Mill Inn and Spa near Bloor and Royal York, but there was once more piece to the puzzle… We had the leftovers of two hurricanes coming through this area on the two days I was shooting!
It’s no secret that I have a 0% precipitation record when it comes to weddings, but it has to come to an end at some point. I thought this weekend was it. I even packed a raincoat and an umbrella, predicting the inevitable.
When I was driving to the studio to pick up my notes and memory cards on Friday, I had to actually pull over under a bridge for a few minutes on the 400 because I could not see a thing through the rain! Again, miraculously the rain stopped completely when I got to the bridal suite! It also held off for the entire time for the pre shoot and the formal photography. This is getting bizarre!
Sunday was another situation where I thought my streak was over. I stopped at two Costco’s looking for a golf umbrella to replace the one that I had broke taking out of my trunk on Friday. Little did I know that the rain would not come until Monday!
I am beginning to think that this is not a coincidence at all and I may start marketing myself with a Good Weather Guarantee. A few people at the studio have actually started calling me “Rain Man”. I don’t know if I like that one…
