Earlier this year, I was hired to accompany Bhavika and Neil to Dreams La Romana in the Dominican Republic to capture their week-long wedding celebration… And this group knew how to celebrate!
I had only met with them a few times during their consultations but even from then, I could tell that this was going to be a great group of people to work with. Both sides of the family were energetic and full of life.
The week started with a sunrise engagement shoot. It was 5:00am and the sun was just breaking over the horizon. The stage was set for some of the most beautiful silhouette shots I have ever taken. The reflection of the water and the tall swaying palm trees made for a magnificent backdrop. I squinted through the lens, looking directly into the sun to capture the perfect lens flare.
Capturing Hindu traditions has become one my specialties and some of the pre-wedding events on this trip to the Dominican were unforgettable. I have never seen the Pithi ceremony get so out of hand. I had turmeric on my face and on my camera after the entire group made it into one giant turmeric fight!
On the morning of the wedding day, I bounced back and forth between the bride and groom’s rooms to make sure that I got the entire story of the day. I was even the delivery vessel for their wedding gifts to each other. My lens belt has been used to hold many things over the years, but this is the first time it was used to transport wedding gifts back and forth between a couple. I was happy to oblige as it created some really nice photos.
The weather on the day of the wedding was perfect and the colours were out of this world. There were wisps of clouds, giving a little contrast to the majestic blue sky. The turquoise water behind the wedding gazebo made the ceremony look like it was straight out of a movie and the Caribbean breeze and crashing waves added the final touch to make this a true wedding in paradise.
After the ceremony, the couple changed into their attire for the reception. Bhavika had changed into a gorgeous blue and green Sari which looked even more beautiful in the golden hour of the day.
As expected, the reception was definitely a wild one. Within 10 minutes of the start of the dancing, the groom was hoisted up on the shoulders of his friends to start what was to be a night of dancing and fun with the entire group.
Congratulations Bhavika and Neil!
