T.I.A. – “This is Africa” 1

It was a stark contrast from Quad Biking through the massive sand dunes in Swakopmund, Namibia yesterday to the walk through the shanty towns today. Sure, I had a great time enjoying the natural scenery and the adrenaline of flying up the dunes at 90 km/hour, but the walk I took through the townships today is main reason I made the long trip across the Atlantic.

It was my first interaction with people in a tourist free area and already I feel very fortunate for what I have. The people were very friendly, waving at you as you walked by. I never felt threatened or in danger, even though I was carrying $20,000 worth of cameras and lenses through this poverty stricken district. Children ran up to have their picture taken and hold my hand as I observed their neighbourhood. The spirit of the people was surprisingly high considering how little they have and the conditions they live in. Some of my best work was shot today, and I can’t wait to share it with you…
